Capitol Hill Soundtrack March 2022

March 30, 2022

In this edition...

“She’s Got the Mic” in special Women’s History Month programming across SiriusXM, Pandora and Stitcher; SiriusXM Cares joins forces with the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture; Urban View host Joe Madison helps champion the Emmett Till Antilynching Act; our latest policy blog looks to the future of privacy-centric audio advertising; and congratulations to SiriusXM CEO Jennifer Witz on being named to Billboard’s 2022 Women in Music Top Executives list!

“She’s Got the Mic” in special Women’s History Month programming across SiriusXM, Pandora, and Stitcher. SiriusXM raised the voices of prolific and up-and-coming female artists with four limited-engagement music channels, spanning genres and artists from across the decades. Pandora launched The Top Thumb Hundred: HerStory station, plus female-driven Modes across music stations. And Stitcher featured multiple playlists highlighting several of our women-centric and women-hosted podcasts covering everything from pop culture and comedy, to news and history. Help us celebrate these awe-inspiring women who’ve made lasting contributions!

SiriusXM is proud to support NMAAHC’s mission of documenting African American life, history, and culture, specifically how African American music plays a central role in the history of American music. SiriusXM Cares, the company’s charitable arm, recently announced a $2 million gift to help the museum continue its critical work. In recognition of this gift, NMAAHC will designate its Neighborhood Record Store, an interactive destination housed within the permanent “Musical Crossroads” exhibition, as the SiriusXM Neighborhood Record Store. Learn more about the Neighborhood Record Store and NMAAHC.

Activist, acclaimed political commentator and SiriusXM Urban View host Joe Madison has been a prominent voice in the fight to pass the Emmett Till Antilynching Act, legislation to explicitly criminalize lynching and make it a hate crime at the federal level. Despite decades of failed attempts in Congress and hundreds of bills introduced to address this important issue, Madison remained an advocate for these efforts for years, using his platform and voice to push legislators forward. Learn more about his work to help pass this historic legislation.

The digital media revolution has illuminated an important tension: the desire across a broad range of stakeholders – listeners, publishers, advertisers – for ever-more personalization in content, balanced with appropriate concerns about online privacy. While traditional identifiers, such as cookies, are being phased out, audio content and listener demand only continue to grow, making good, responsible ad delivery that much more difficult. So it’s an important time to talk about what the future of audio advertising looks like. Read more about our approach in the latest Policy Blog.

We’re very excited to share that our CEO, Jennifer Witz, was recognized by Billboard on their 2022 Women in Music Top Executives list! Each year, their Women in Music event honors women in the music industry who made significant contributions to the business and who, through their work and continued success, inspire generations of women to take on increasing responsibilities within the field. Click to see all of this year’s honorees.
